ON TRENTHAM TRACK

THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS

MALAYAN AT DISTANCE

Work at Trentham this morning ■was again of a steady nature for most horses, and only a few were required to go fast. Both the grass and the plough were available, and were in firstclass order.

G. Jones elected to giillop Lady Pnm instead of.on Saturday, because a break in the -weather was threatening. Accompanied by Spear Lad for half a mile and Fairwiud for the last three furlongs, she ran seven furlongs on the plough in. lmin 28 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 38 3-ssec.

Lady Pam is to go to Masterton, where E. Heed will, again ride her. Other members of Jones's team to do the trip are Spear Lad, Actaeon, and Fairwind. Fouhvind and Actaeon sprinted three furlongs on the grass in 40 2-ssee. Tea, Queen showed a marked disinclination to set out on her gallop, but once going she went generously enough to register 50 2-ssec for half a mile on the grass.

AVlnloch started off at Hie mile post on the plough, but had not worked up properly into her stride till past the seven furlongs peg. The seven furlongs took Imiu 38 l-ssec, and the last Imlf-milo Msec, but she was not pressed to do her best.

Arikinui, making his first appearance since his trip to Biverton, did half a mile on the plough, but was not timed. Historic and Malayan began to speed up at the mile and a quarter on the plough, and came home from the mile :in lmin 45 3-sse<s, the last half-mile being done in 51 3-ssec. Malayan, who is evidently to be raced at longer distances, had a length advantage at the finish,'but Historic was again troubled with finding his breath, a peculiarity he has manifested lately on the plough.

Granado and Lyrical ran the last half-mile of six furlongs in Msec. Zephyrus, on the plough, took lmin 33 2-osec for seven furlongs, but he was doing his best only over the final three furlongs, for which he registered 37sec, quite a fair effort. Joie de Yal, who is to race at Masterton, strode over six furlongs on the plough at a strong three-quarter pace. • Ephinltes, who will also probably go to Masterton, was allotted a couple of irounds at a steady to strong half-pace. Arrowzone, who has only, recently begun to gallop fast again, sprinted half a mile*on the plough, in 53 2-ssec.

Hymgreat took lmin 36scc for seven furlongs. , The only schooling bout, was that m which St'aghunter (A. Jonkins) and Courageous (P. Burgess) were associated. The pair jumped two fences and then baulked- at, the third, but, taken back, leaped without any ado. They were then made to traverse the three fences again, but Staghunter ran across each one, though jumping safely enough. Courageous's display the second time was much better. Staghunter has had a lot of schooling lately, and this is the first time he has not jumped willingly and straight, indicating that he is probably feeling.sore from so much exercise of customarily little-used muscles. The hurdle horseman, D. B. Gunn, has been granted a renewal of his licence, and he will be riding at Marton, where he has been engaged for -bx Dono.
