LOSS OF SOUTHERN CLOUD
REPORT OF COMMITTEE
SYDNEY, 29th April. The report of the committee1 which inquired into the loss" of the Southern Cloud finds that no blame is attachable to any person connected with Australian National Airways.
"The Southern Cloud was airworthy and properly cared for, and all reasonable precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the passengers." The committee, however, recommends that wireless facilities be provided along the route traversed by the airliners engaged in the regular commercial services.
On 21st March the air-liner Southern Cloud with six passengers and two pilots disappeared during a flight from Sydney to Melbourne. A gale was blowing on the day of the journey, and the machine was last seen heading into thick and stormy weather. Despite a thorough search no trace of the air-liner has been found.
