AMBULANCE SERVICE

LADIES' AUXILIARY

. Mucli interest was shown, at the meet-ing-of ,the women's' auxiliary of ' the Wellington Free Ambulance,-held at the Chamber of Coniiueree ; Room yesterday afternoon, when Mrs- Norwood presided. The attendance was good, .and among those present were Mr. H. M. Jones (representing the Free Ambulance Board), and Mr. Roffe (secretary and superintendent).

• The annual report showed that many efforts had been made-, for raising money, and had been attended by good success, special mention being made of the dance held at the residence of Mrs. B. Sutherland at Karori, and later of a garden party'at the same beautiful place. The funds from the latter were diverted to the earthquake funds. Assistance was given by the auxiliary to the Fire Brigade's "Joy Night," to the combined band effort, and the committee of the Free Ambulance "Street Day." Mrs. Norwood, in commenting on the report which contained other details of good work, remarked on the happy relations between all workers.and those in authority, and on the helpful sympathy", of the public in the work of the ambulance. ..' ■■■" . . :•.

Mr.' H.: M. Jones, in referring to'-the result of the art union, said that the ambulance had £14,200 in cash, and with £5000 formerly set-aside for building purposes, was "only waiting for tenure of the'ground, before the new building could be • erected. He. thanked the Wellington' public,- local bodies, the St. John Ambulance, private firms, and individuals for help given, and fie also paid a tribute to the staff. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mrs. .0. J. B. Norwood (re-elected).;, vice-presi-dents, Mrs. Aston and Mrs. A. Gibbons (re-elected); hwi. vice-presidents, Mrs. G. A. Troup and Mrs. Macnrfcliy Roid; secretary, Mrs.-E. P. Norman (re-elect-ed); treasurer, Mrs. M'Go wan; committee, Mrs. Bateson, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Dixon, Mrs. J. I. Goldsmith, Mrs. 11. M. Jones, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Mazengarb, Mrs. A. A. Moore, Mrs. J. Munt, Mrs. C. Mack, Mrs. M'-Vicar, Mrs. P. Roffo, Mrs. Searle, Mrs. . Sanderson, Mrs. B. Sutherland, Mrs. T. Watkins, Mrs. Stone (re-elected), and Mrs. Mandor. Votes of thanks wore passed to Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland, to all helpers towards tho upkeep of the ambulance, and to Mrs. Troup for the privilege of using the Mayoress's room for meetings, and the Chamber of Commerce.
