VISITING ARTIST

Among the recent arrivals from the United States is Mr. A. Lincoln Cooper, 'Director of the Art and Colour Division of the General Motors Export' Co., the Fokker Aircraft Corporation, and the Dornier Company of America, builders of the D.O.K. flying-boats, with a capacity of from 35 to 160 passengers. Mr. Cooper studied art in tho Boston School of Fine Arta, and spent five yoars in Paris, and Madrid. After returning, to the United States from Europe,, he served as an instructor at the School of Industrial Art of New York City. His career has been marked by'a series of notable achievements. In a contest organised by the United States Government he was awarded first prize for the best design of a decorative character. Ho won a prize of 10,000 dollars offered for the best decorative design for the Custom House of San Francisco, and one of 15,000 dollars for the Custom House of Columbus, Ohio. In the field of painting he has been honoured by the Sears prize of Boston, Mass., and took first prizo in Fall Bivor and in Brockton, Mass. St. Louis National Aircraft Show was thij scene of his latest success, where he was awarded a silver cup for designing the most -beautiful aeroplane exhibit at that international show. This 'plane was. a Fokker, manufactured by the Fokker Aircraft Corporation. Many public buildings, both in and outsido of the United States, as well as mansions of famous people, have! been beautified by Mr. Cooper. Among i these are the National City Bank of New York City, the famous Capitol Theatre, one of the great moving picture palaces of the North American metropolis, the beautiful Ambassador Hotel at Atlantic City, the Eoyal Hawaiian Hotel at Honolulu, the luxurious residence of the Marques de Vil- ' leran of Havana, the' mansion of Mr. Clarence Mackay, director of the Commercial Cable, and that of Mr. John T. Pratt, the Standard Oil magnate, tho residence of Mr. Jacob Astor, and many other private homes/ hotels, and theatres, too numerous .to mention. Mr. Cooper's latest commission is that of painting a full-length portrait of H.R.H. the Prince Axel of Den-1 mark.
