RESISTANCE TO LISBON
WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT
FUNCHAL, Sth April. The military junta here declares that it is mobilising its reserves with the approval of the whole population in view of the possibility of the Lisbon Government, attempting to suppress, the movement. It guarantees food supplies, for the maintenance of which threo Portuguese steamers have been seized^ These will trade with England—the island's usual produce market. All local authorities have been replaced by the present military Government, which demands the re-establish-ment of public liberty as laid down by the Republican Constitution, the abolition of exile without trial, the abolition of censorship, and the return of free elections. Absolute freedom is guaranteed to foreign shipping.
