RUPERT BROOKE

"NOBLE FRIEND OF GREECE"

STATUE.AT SKYROS ; LONDON, 6th April. "Kupert Brooke, the noble friend of Greece, and his immortal poetry," is the inscription at the base of a nude statue of Brooke internationally subscribed and unveiled to-day with a simple ceremony at the Island of Skyros in the presence of international writers. The poet Lascelles Abercrombie had previously recited one of Brooke's poems over his grave. Eupert Brooke died in Skyros in 1915 at the age of 28. At the time h° was an officer in the Royal Naval Division.
