MANAWATU TOURNEY

The Mauawatu Golf Club's Easter tourney reached the final stage yesterday,, when a surprise was staged by the Dannevitkc Maori player J. Hape, who beat Kkstcdt, the local champion, in the third round, 3 and 2, and in the semi-final accounted for Hutchison, another local scratch player, 1 up. The scores were:— Championship: Third round —J. Hape (Dannevirke) beat A. E. Ekstedt, 3 and 2; H. 11. Hutchison beat B. M. (silk (Wtinganui) at 22nd; W. B. Reilly (Wanganui) beat 0. H. Williams at 19th; J. P. Hornabrook (Masterton) beat F. J. Chr.istensen (Jlai-ton), 1 up. Semi-finals—Hape beat Hutchison, 1 up; Eornabvook beat Keilly at 19th... ■•■-.. The tournament has been run in groups of sixteen, according to handicaps, and the following are the winners of the other groups: — No. 1 Group: Second round: B. Cumberworth beat F. Raven, 4 and 3; C. R. Uphum beat W. L. Fitzherbert, 4 and Ii; R, G. Moore, beat T. Stubbs, 3 and 1; F. Fcnwick beat W. E. Winks, 4 and '&'. Semi-finals: Cumbonvorth beat Upliain, 3 and 3; Fcnwick beat Moore at ,19th. The final will be played to-day. No. 2 Group: Semi-finals: '£. Pain (Palmerston North) beat H. Bradmore (Waverley), 4 and 3; E. Fletcher beat L. 11. Herbert (Dannevirke), 3 and 1.
