FIRE ENHANCES DISASTER

(Received 2nd April, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Ist AprilUnofficial eslimal.es of the casuallies from yesterday's earthquake, which caused the total destruction of Managua, the Nicaraguan capital, place the deaths at over 1000 and the injured at 3000. The damage was apparently localised to Managua, where fire, caused by burst gas mains, added to the terrifying situation. The fire was still raging this afternoon. Official information, received in London from the British Consul at Managua stated that the fire was threatening the British Legation, but it is believed that there were no casualties among the British colony. Assistance is being rushed to the district by aeroplanes and ships.
