MESSIAH"

By a large majority of the public, an announcement that Handel's masterpiece is to be performed is accepted with great pleasure, for though "Messiah" has been performed far more often than any other oratorio, it contains so many beautiful numbers that the public is ever willing to listen to them. At the Town Hall tomorrow night at 7.45, the Royal Wellington Choral Union will present the oratorio in.aid of the Earthquake Relief Fund. For this performance the society will have the assistance of the Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mr. John Bishop will have a total of 300 performers under his baton. His Excellency the Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe will be present, as well as the Mayor and Mrs. Troup.. The soloists secured are all well known for their sound and reliable work. Miss Christina Ormiston will be.the soprano. Miss Mina Caldow the contralto, Mr. Edwin Dennis the tenor, Mr. Ernest Short baritone, Mr. Clement Howo will preside at the grand organ. The final rehearsal tnkes place' at the Town Hall at S o'clock to-night. The box plan will remain open at the Bristol till 8.30 to-night, where 2s seats can be reserved and Is tickets purchased.
