ORIGINAL NOTIONS

THREE HUNDRED GOWNS

Mr. C. B. Coehran's 1931 Bcvue, w^hieh opened recently, surpassed its own brilliat predecessors in pageantry and original fashion notions (states the "Daily Mail"). Twenty-thr.ee scenes, containing three hundred magnificent costumes, are a feature of the produc; tion. i The sensation of the show, so_ far as the women members of the audience wero eonoorned, was the group of dresses worn by the girls in tho opening chorus. The sixteen girls wore beautifully designed evening gowns, tho tones varying from jet-black to icewhite. Starting at one end of the line the gowng began with a short-fitting jacket in semi-double, breasted stylo in deep black volvet, with ■ satin skirts; then the tones gradually changed, till tho last girl was in dazzling white. In the final scene, the chorus again appeared in evening gowns, for which sixteen new pastel shades we're created. Each of the voluminous skirts revealed a profusion of dainty net ruffles from a petticoat! Petticoats also appeared with the dresses worn by. the women principals in the closing scene. Miss Ada May wore a black evening gowa which was absolutely backless, crossed with a black velvet strap and a narrow blind of diamente, and her potticoat was frill upon frill of white Valenciennes lace.
