EXCITING VOYAGE

(Received Ist April, 1 p.m.) PARIS, 31st March. The Ville do Verdun arrived at Marseilles from Noumea after a voyage as full of incident as a novel. Shortly after passing the Marquesas Islands, the quartermaster went insane and murdeucd the captain with a pistol. Later two men were lost overboard. Then towards the end of the voyage an SOS from the Italian steamer Ruta brought the Ville de Verdun rushing to the rescue of the crew.

The Ville da Verdun is a Messageries Maritimes steamer of 7007 tons, built in 1921 by the North of Ireland Shipbuilding Company, of Londonderry, and engined by Kincaid and Co., of Greenock. The Ruta, 6015 tons, owned by La Riviera Soe Anon dv Nar, of Genoa, was built and engined in 1912 by Henderson's, of Glasgow.
