SUBTLE CHANGE FOR 1931

"After a spell of over-sophistication in dress it. is pleasant to see a subtle change creeping in," states a woman writer, in the "Daily Mail." "Eeviewing the many hundreds-of models shown recently, I can. see that the chic 'pose' for 1931 will be one of innocence and ingenuousness. For daytime in summer the favourite colours are sky-blue, shell-pink, and .coTaL For the .everfing there is again shell-pink _or pink and \ gren flowers printed on white cbiffoni The vamp type of dress still exists, but in a minority. The new tendency to- allow fullness to spring from just below the hips adds to the ingenuous effect of the newest dresses. Already the close-fitting, serpent-like line is beginning to look old-fashioned. To one sophisticated frock you see three girlishly innocent ones. "I have seen dozens of models that prove my point. True, there: was a white evening model slashed in front to reveal, not demure petticoats, but white-lace, trousers; and -another, with a corsage supplemented by no'shoulderstraps whatsoever in front,- showed a sophisticated greon/gebrgetto petticoat' when tho wearer walked. Many of the new bathing suits were hand-knitted, and tho latest idea is to have a flag representing an initial in the nautical codo embroidered '■ on them.
