WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY

COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE

Married in 1926, Zoo M'Cuteheon Pahl lived with her husband until about the end of November last, wken, as a result of a quarrel, she left him to go away with a man with whom she had gone through a form of marriage some days previously. As a. result of her action, she appeared in the- Magistrate 's Court to-day, before Mr. E. Page, S.M., charged with bigamy, fehe pleaded guilty, and after tho evidence had been heard.she was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Mr. W. E. Leicester appeared for tho accused. Dudley Staeey Pahl said that he married the accused jd May, 1926, at the Registrars' Office in Wellington, and lived with her until about tho cud of November, 1930, when she left him. On mil January of this year she returned and told the witness that she had committed bigamy on 15th November, 1930. She said she had married a man named I'tsher. \yitness snid that his marriage with the accused had not been dissolved. Cross-examined, the witness said that shortly before his wife left him they had quarrelled over the presence of a relative in tho ■house. He had taken his wife back and they were now 1 living together. His wife was advised to notify the police, and to his knowledge slio did so. Alfred Daniel Fisher, motor driver, said that he first mot tho accused in August or September last year. She told him her namo was Miss Roberts. He kept company with her, and on 15th November, 1030, married her. The accused told the witness when sho married him that she was single. Cross-examined, witness said he was out of work when he' married the accused, and at tho present time he was serving a term of imprisonment. It was stated that tho accused had never previously been in troublo, and evidence was given that-she was of good character. Hail wns allowed in the accused's own bond of £.50.
