Prior to the commencement of play, Mr. H. G. He extender! a cordial welcome to the veterans, and said the tournament had now been carried on for some years, and was regarded by the centre as one of the most important fixtures of the season. It was a happy thought that prompted Mr. S. Potter to inaugurate what was primarily a social gathering. They were particularly glad to ace present Mr. William Freeman, aged 97, of Seatoun, without whom a veterans' day would not be complete. In addition to the veterans taking part, there was a large number of old players watching the games, as well as a fair gathering of visitors. Mr. Freeman sent down the silver kitty and two good bowls, after which play commenced.
