CRAVEL FROM THE BEACHES

(To the Editor.) Sir, —A few months ago a deputation from the Island Bay Ratepayers' Association interviewed Mr. Donald, the Minister of Marine, in reference to carters removing gravel from the Happy Valley beach. After inspecting the beach, the Minister told the deputation that on no account whatsoever was any more gravel to be removed, as he could see if that was allowed to go on, private property would be washed away) and this would cost the country hundreds of pounds for compensation. Yet, after this, the removal of gravel has started again. If the public do not soon wake up they will find when it is too late that they will have no beaches left. Trusting_ you will use your influence to stop this vandalism.—l am, etc., . ■ ■ -. i ■■'.■■■ -: ■;. JUSTICE.,
