BURIED SPLENDOUR
EGPYTIAN QUEEN'S TOMB
PROFESSOR'S- RICH FIND
(Received 27th January, 9.30 a.m.) CAIRO, 26th January, j Professor Hassan has excavated the j tomb of Queen Cha, who was queen in the third dynasty. The tomb consistsof two chambers, one containing the! sarcophagus, surmounted by a golden, bejewelled crown, and the other filled j with furniture, golden toilet articles, ' and-alabaster statuettes. Apparently I the tomb belongs to the mother of: Tarsoankh, whose body was discovered by Professor Hassan last year also in the mausoleum between the Pyramids and the Spidiroc, which is described as "an underground city complete with roads and buildings."
The third (Memphite) dynasty marks the beginning of more numerous written records of ancient Egypt. Third dynasty kings built huge masrtaba tombs near Abydos and a great steppyramid at Sakkara. Pyramids also were built at Medum (in steps) and at Dahshur (probably in the perfected form). •
