pAhiatuJ meeting

ij ' ■■ XOrMORROty>S PROSPECTS

HORSES TCI HO MAY GO WELL

Good fields 1} afve accepted for all events oh the opening'.ila'y of the Palaiatua Racing Club's Annual, Meeting to-morrow; and the racing should be of an interesting and closely contes jifced nature. Weather prospects are promising,' and the going is likely to be. iast. The club has installed a ten-shillinf g totalisator, and it is anticipated that this will encourage patronage and incidei /tally assist in keeping up the investment b. The prq.^ramine opens with the MAIDEN SitiCE, of 80 soys; all 8.7; six furlongs and 55 yards. BysMdtp . Midnight Echo . Taura Lad Bright Sky Caught lady 3 Jonald Protomint Lady J flakere Pimplo Ouexfr am Jadarino Ulue.; Heaven Merry Boy Wee, .Acre Leyland Valaoous Knight Maidstone Several o£ the field engaged for the Waiiden Race have been showing good iouax lately, and in the absence of Saltpot, wA io is not making the trip, those in most demand will probably be Protomint, fyady Makere, Lady ltonald, Flute, and •fladarino. Trontham-trained Caught, who l/.as been working well on the tracks refvently, and had her first race last Saturday, is also a. possibility, though another race or two may find her showing to more advantage. The services of B. H. Morris will be of considerable assistance to her. A pair who should perform well are Protomint and Lady Makere. BALLANCE HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP, of 120 soys; seven furlongs. st lb st lb Talisker .... 10 13 Pine Acre .-... 910 ■Queen's Choice 10 9 Wanderlust ... 9 8 Walloon ,10 8 Baskier .9 5 Belle Star ... 10 8 Pale Star' ... 9 0 Briar Boot ... 911 Form horses in the Ballance Highweight Handicap are Queen's Choice and Belle Star, ■ and they are likely to command most attention from bettors. Rameses will not be there, as he went south to his new quarters at Wingatui last evening. Among the others, Balloon reads to have the most favourable outlook, but Briar Root may also be ready for an improved showing after her recent racing. Baskier's Ashhurst running does not point strongly to his chance. A pair who should take a lot of beating are Belle Star and Queen's Choice. KONINI HACK HANDICAP, of 100 soys; six furlongs and 55 yards. st lb at lb Statuary ... 9 0 Winloeh 7 7 leisure Sll Royal Bengal . 7 5 Patearoa ..S3 Lady Makere . 74 Ex Douo 8 3 Protomint -... 7 3 Golden Shadow S 1 Jadarino 7 3 Arvada 7 9 The issue in the Konini Hack Handicap is very 'open, with good followings likely for Statuary, Leisure, Patearoa, Golden Shadow, and Arvada. Golden Shadow was an unlucky runner at Ashhurst, and if a strong rider is in the saddle he should be able to account for Patearoa and Leisure. Statuary, who won at Foxton, and was finishing on well in his.race at Trentham after covering a lot of unnecessary ground, and Arvada, who was also unlucky in the running of ; her race on Saturday, will probably offer him most opposition. A couple lower down who showed up in 'their races at Trentham are Wirfoch\ and Royal Bengal, and they appeal most of the 1)011001 half of the list. Trentham form should prove superior to Ashhurst, and for this reason preference is given to Statuary and Arvada. FAHIATUA GOLD CUP, of 200 soys; one mile and a quarter. st lb st lb The Swell .. 8 8 Mt. Shannon . 7 0 Hoylake .... 8 T Dainty Ways ,70 Kuanui 8 6 Tunbridge ....' 7 0 Desert Song -.. S3 Fitzquex .... 7 0 Billion .... 7 6 Jayson 7 0 For an open handicap there is not much clasg offering in the Pahiatua Gold Cup, and, with RuanuiV failing so dismally at Ashhurst, nothing appears to have outstanding prospects. The Swell has apparently recovered something of his best form, and. his Ashhurst Cup success points to his racing prominently again. As Admiral Drake will not be there, his main opposition will probably come from the southern bracket, Hoylake and Desert Song, and from Billion, but Ruanui cannot altogether be left out of calculations, for he will be improved by his outing Jast - week, and needs only to be near his best to extend most of those listed against him here. Possibilities among the lightweighte are Dainty Ways and Fitzquex, who should manage the distance. Support will not be wanting for The Swell and the Hoylake—Desert Song bracket. HAMUA HANDICAP, of 100 soys; one mile and 110 yards. st lb st lb Weiata 9 0 Brambletora .. 8 3 Acmil •8 11 Lucrctia .... 7 9 Spearfona .. 8 6 Courtlllco ... 7 7 Statuary .... 8 5 Acred ....... 7 6 * Bich Harvest ; , 8 5 Kllorell .... 7 5 Ashhurst running indicates Brambletorn ■c likely to go well again, in the Hamua Hack Handicap, in spite of the 101b rehandicap he has incurred, and he will ,be one of the elect. Acmil and Spearform, however, are a pair who will probably prove more difficult opponents than they were last week, aiid Rich Harvest, as a result of his convincing highweight success at Trentham, reads to have an even better chance of beating him. Best ,of the others may be Werata, who is coming to hand with his recent racing. Good efforts can be expected from Rich Harvest and Brambletorn. MAKURI HACK HANDICAP, of 100 soys; sfx furlongs and 55 yards. st lb -st lb Pakitera 9 1 Cook » 7 10 Oral 8 3 Arvada 7 10 Mahora 8 2 Sir Honald .. 7 3 San Quex ... 8 1 Valueless ... 7 2 Queen's Saluto 710 Thrasher 7 2 In a poor field in the Makuri Hack Handicap, best credentials are held by Pakitere, Mahora, Queen's Salute; and Arvada, and one of them should provide the winner. On performances, Pakitere stands above them all, but she does not always race with the best of luck. A surprise is on the cards, and the likeliest to produce it is Valueless, whose Marton promise has yet to be fulfilled. Arvada will again be hard tofbeat if started here, and in her absence the best may be Pakisare and Mahora. rBESIDENT'S HANDICAP, of 130 soys; sis furlongs and 55 yards. st lb .st lb Desert Song .. 9 0 lady Bene ... 7 10 Bidgemount .. 813 Dobbin ..... 710 Belle Star ..8 1 Taranto 7 8 Portray .... 8 0 Roi de Val .. 7-0 Ridgemount's success at Ashhurst, followed by his prominent showing at Trentham on Saturday, will probably send him out favourite for the President's Handi- \ cap, and if Belle Star is also started there is little doubt that bettors will seize on the bracket. Others who will be supported are Desert Song (if reserved for this race). Lady Rene, and Dobbin, and there will also be some to overlook Portrays failure at Ashhurst. In a weak field the likeliest road to be the RidgemountBelle Star bracket and Lady Rene. EKETAHUNA HACK HANDICAP, of 100 soys; seven furlongs. st lb st lb Acmil 9 7 White Doe .... 7 12 YFitzquex ... 9 7 Protomint .... 7 12 Pewa .' 8 l.'i Modestrian 7 12 .Ex Dono 8 10 Black Acre ... 7 11 notation 8 6 Feast 7 11 Airforce 8 1 Lady Ronald .7 11 Desert Lad ... 8 fl Enter 7 11 King Broney .1 12 Grey Witch .7 11 One who makes instant appeal in the Eketahuna Handicap is Pewa, and as Acmil will probably be started in her

earlier engagement and Fitzquex is. mentioned as a likely runner in the Cup, she should not have a difficult field to dispose of. Acmil and Fitzquex would offer her some danger if they were to take ; their place in the'eontest, and in their absence the ones most likely to worry her are Rotation, White Doe, and Protomint. Rotation particularly raced well in the race at Trentham won by Arikira, and a little improvement on that form would give- him more than an outside chance. Two who should play a part in the finish are Pewa. and Rotation.
