SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. The recent anticyclone has passed away to the east of the North Island, and since, last night the front of a depression has ,moved on to Southern New Zealand. Fine, warm,. and sultry weather prevailed yesterday in most districts, but skies have gradually clouded over, and at 9 a.m. to-day dull, misty conditions were widespread. Bain fell yesterday at places in Otago and Southland, and by this morning It had extended to Canterbury and Westland and was also reported at a few Isolated places in the northern portion of the North Island. Northerly winds have commenced to freshen, especially in the Cook Strait region.
