RAIN DEVELOPING
WARM' AND .CLOUDY
The weather was fair to fine over most of the Dominion during the week-end owing to the. influence of an. anticyclone which has moved slowly across thp country. It had its centre to the northwards, and slight low pressure waves moved along its southern edge to the south of New Zealand, consequently western districts, from Taranaki southwards, and Otago and Southland; experienced some rainfall, mostly of a light and scattered nature, but isolated heavy falls occurred last night at Arthur's Pass (1.22 in), and Queenstown (.53in). Winds varied between north-west and south-west, and wero mostly moderate,-but in and south, of Cook Strait strong north-westerlies prevailed at times. Auckland experienced fair to cloudy weather on Saturday and Sunday, with a light southerly wind. At Wellington it was misty on Saturday, and a light shower fell during the afternoon! Sunday was sunny and warmj northerly winds freshening during the day. Christchurch for the most part had a fine week-end.- On Sat-1 urday it was cloudy in the morning, but cleared in the afternoon, a freshening north-east wind blowing all day. Sunday morning- was brilliantly/ fine, but by noon it had become cloudy and rained. ,• A strong, hot north-westerly blow/in tho evening, but later backed to a cool, dry southerly. It was a perfect day at Dunodin on Saturday, the wind boing light and variable. Yesterday morning nns also: fine, but tho afternoon was unsettled, with rain.
The forecast is for moderate, - but freshening, liorthorly winds. The wenHior will bo generally warm and showery, with increasing cloud and haziness, rain developing in the northern and southern extremities of the Do.minion, and cloudiness becoming more general during the next 24 to 36 hours.
