Nicholls and D. Howe. MIXED DOUBLES. A. L. France and Miss D. Nicholls. The weather on Saturday, when the semi-finals and finals were played, was unfavourable. The high northerly wind in the early part of the day dropped later, but in the afternoon there was a light shower which caused a break in the games. In the final of the men's singles, the spectators saw bright tennis at times, but Ferkins was badly outclassed by France. The one outstanding feature of Ferkins's play was hia determination, and he fought hard till the end. Whether he was at the net or not, France was far too strong for his opponent, and possessed too many strokes for Ferkins. ■ Tho final of the women's singles between Miss Nicholls and Miss East was 'also one-sided.' From start to finish Miss Nicholls held the upper hand, and the result.was never in. doubt. The final of the men's doubles was disappointing. The France brothers were pushed to 9-7 in the second set, but other than that there was very little incident. The first set of the women's doubles was a ding-dong battle, going in favour of Misses Nicholls and Howe 7-5. Of the four players. Misses Nicholls aud Brady were outstanding, and it was between these two. that most of the play lay. The mixed doubles final saw A. L. France and Miss Nicholls decisively beat D. G.
