HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Department of• Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 24th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow. —No auction this week._ Market quiet with very little business doiug. Spot quotations nominally unchanged. Hemp.—Manila market has declined fur; ther owing to insufficient support. X grade. "Jan.-Mar.-shipment, sold at £19 ss, but closed better, and prices hardened; sellers now asking £19 15s. Sisal market dull but firmer at the close, with' buyers Dec.-Feb. shipment \ No. 1 fair , average quality at £16 15s, 2nd grade £16. New Zealand market idle with quotations nominally unchanged. No first-hand sales reported. Wool. —Sales opened 20th with representative catalogue. Fair attendance. Competition somewhat irregular. Compared with closing rates last series merino 35 per cent., crossbred 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, lower. 172,000 bales available for series, of which New Zealand 55.000, Australian 112,000, South American 2100.
