PRIVATE BUSES AGAIN?
If; was suggested to a "Poat" reporter ■ to-day that a decidedly interesting- possibility has been opened by the decision of the Eailway Department to increase- .the bus fare to Upper Hutt to 2s 6d, as tho regulations regarding bus competition do not apparently apply to trips on which the fare exceeds 2s. ' If that was so, there was nothing to prevent private machines being placed on the road in competition with tho Eailway Department buses over tho longer distance runs, and as the Sunday trains were to be cut out and eoueesftiion tickets would not be available on railway buses on Sundays and holidays, the opening might prove extremely profitable to a private owner operating at a faro under the Department's halfcrown charge.
