DANGER IN UNCERTAINTY
Though the request for a moratorium was not favoured by all concerned in the management of the dairy industry, it was submitted by an influential body. It cannot, therefore, be dismissed as a suggestion emanating from an irresponsible organisation. It must be considered and an answer given. In London, Mr. Forbes has expressed an opinion unfavourable to the proposal, but not in such definite terms as to remove uneasiness altogether. Until the Government in New Zealand makes a more definite reply some investors in rural securities are likely to be nervous. To reassure them the Government should state plainly, and without delay, that it has no intention of adopting so drastic: and dangerous an expedient as the moratorium. A clear declaration is essential to restore confidence. j
