WORK FOE NINETY-ONE
PETONE UNEMPLOYED
Fifty Pctone men are at present engaged on the relief work on the Koro Eoro road, and it is expected that fifteen more will start on Monday and five on Tuesday, making in all seventy on that job. In addition, arrangements have been made for twenty-one single men to go to work at Wanganui, almost immediately. With the provision of this employment, and of that given by. the local meat-works, it is expected that the majority of the unemployed in the borough" will have found relief. The exact number of those still out of work will be known on Monday, as re-registration is taking place now. The Mayor of Petone (Mr. D. M' Kenzie) is making every endeavour to have the Minister of Public Works keep all the seventy men on the Koro Koro job until it is finished, and even to put on more if possible.
