KARORI PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION

A POOR ATTENDANCE.

.The quarterly meeting of the Karoi'i Progressive Association was held last evening in the Council Chambers, Karori, Mr. W. Siram presiding. Disappointment was expressed at the extremely poor attendance, only niue being present. Correspondence was dealth -with, Mr. A. F. Wiren . (hou. secretavji) stating that he had received a communication from the council in regard to Birdwood street. The authorised expenditure had been reached, but several corners were stilt in as bad a condition as before. The City Engineer had promised that this matter would receive attention. The formation of a footpath in Vera street had been commenced. Cooper street was in need of drainage, and tho dangerous corner at the junction of Lancaster street and the Main road required attention. A letter from the Fire Board regarding the installation of fire alarms in the district to link up with the new Northland station caused gratification. These alarms would be completed early in the New Year. Mr. Simm drew attention to the fact that the Kelburn viaduct would again be open to two-way traffic as from Monday next. This removed the danger of the route via Plunket street and Raroa road, where men -were engaged on widening operations. A communication had been received from the Wellington City Ratepayers' Association requesting that two delegates should attend a meeting to discuss the forthcoming Mayoral elections. The meeting unanimously declined to send any representative. - A motion confirming the action of the committee in appointing Messrs. Fodeu and Andrews to tho Civic League was passed. It was announced that the City Council had in view a possible acquisition of land to tho rear of the Karori baths for a playground. Disappointment was expressed that tjip.se baths had not been taken into consideration in the estimates for the year. In regard to the, electoral campaign, it was decided to approach Mr. George H. Scott, of Karori, with a view to his standing for election, as well as the present nominees. Councillors B. G. 11. Burn and William Hildreth. A letter from tho Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troupl in regard to the Unemployment Fund received attention. It was decided to hold a street day in conjunction with the Wellington appeal. The secretary (Mr. Wircni was left to approach ladies with the object of forming a committee.
