SENSATION IN ITALY
DESCENT ON INTELLECTUALS

Alleging tho -existence of a secret organisation preparing crimes against the Government, the police arrested 24 intellectuals, including .au elderly American-born lady, Signora do Bosia, widow of au Italian poet, and translator of Shelley, i A printing press was found under Signora de Bosia 'e bod, and she is accused of disseminating leaflets exposing wrongs perpetrated under Fascism. Others arrested are; Renzo Rendi, correspondent of the New York "Evening Post," and Mario Venciguorra, a translator of English books. The arrests have astonished tho Anglo-American colony, as several had Anglo-American literary connections. The accused have been handed over for trial to a special tribunal. It is also reported that Communist conspiracies hnvc been discovered in the Eniila and Romagnano districts, and numerous arrests have been made.
