AUCKLAND SEATS

ROSKILL SELECTION

MR. W. J. HOLDSWORTH FOR REFORM

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, 3rd December. The Beforni candidate for the Eoskill seat at the General Election next year will be Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, chairman of the Auckland Electric Power Board. The party invited nominations from which tho official candidate would be selected at the customary meeting of delegates, but Mr. Holdsworth's name was the only one submitted. Voting in Roskill at tho General Election in 1928 was as follows:— G. C. Munns (United) 5745 A. S. Eiehards (Labour) .. 3401 Miss E. Melville (Reform) . 3345 For practical purposes Koskill was then a new electorate, created as the result of a readjustment of the boundaries following the. 1926 census. Tho electorate formerly known as Eoskill is now mainly embraced in the Eden constituency. As it can be taken for granted that Mr. Munns will seek re-election, and as the Labour Party is now giving active attention to the selection of its candidates for all city and suburban seats, it appears that the position in Eoskill as far as the announcement of candidates is concerned will be completed ahead of any of the other electorates in the metropolitan area. Although the candidature of Mr. Colin Mason for the Thames seat was announced this week by the United Party, organising efforts in the city area have not reached the stage where candidates have been selected for seats Hot at present held by the party. EYES ON GREY LYNN. At the moment particular attention appears to be focused on Grey Lynn, where through the defection of Mr. J. S. Fletcher, the party is under the necessity of finding another standardbearer. It is stated that several likely candidates are in mind for other city seats, but it is not likely that definite announcements will be made until the New Year. At this distance from the General Election, the Grey Lynn contest bears the marks of principal interest, for it is almost certain that Mr. Fletcher will be opposed by candidates representing each of the three main parties. "With the possible exception of Manukau, it is stated that the United Party will run candidates in all city and suburban contests. Labour will contest all 10 seats, while if the experience of 1928 is any guide, Eeform will also havo candidates in all the metropolitan constituencies.
