ON TRENTHAM TRACK

CONCENTRATE'S GOOD GALLOP

There was a fog nt Trentham early this moniiiig, but it did not interfere with tho galloping, ■which was carried out on the outside of the trial grass. Tho going was slightly soft after overnight rain. •■•■.■ Hunting Call and Mythology, separately, were given half-pace work on the- tan, and Open Cheque, Malayan, and Tea Queen were allotted similar tasks. The two-year-olds Invite and Red Sun (Australian Sun—Bed Wheat) strode along together, but were not after time, and Salt Spray, Mr. C. Boyle's fine-looking Australian-bred two-year-old chestnut gelding by Saltash from Aries', was cantered at an easy pace. Invite is to race at Awapuni, but no engagements are in the offing for the 'other pair. Marjoram; looking better at every appearance on the track, accompanied Saltpot over six furlongs at. a strong three-quarter _ pace. Duellona finished a length ahead of Royal Game, with Kiriana a good two lengths farther away, at the conclusion of a seven-furlong spin that took lmin 33 2-ssee," the last half-mile being done in 54 4-ssec. Lady Pain and Sir Limond did two stroug rounds together on the grass, and Rasouli and Rational 11. did easy ixicowork on the tan. A. Goodman's new pair, Valquette and Wee Night (Heather Mixture— Nightshade), sprinted half a mile in 50 2-ssee, the former having a length advantage at the end. Historic, and Staghunter over seven furlongs. Staghunter had an initial advantage, but the other pair were much too good for him down the straight, Coneentrato bowling along in fine stylo to beat Historic homo by half a length. They ran the first furlong in 13sec, the nest in 13 l : ssec, the third in the same time, and the last half-mile in 51 2-osee, making the time for the full distance lmin 30 4-ssec. Concentrate is looking a picture, and ho galloped freely throughout, but Historic also went well, and gave a very pleasing exhibition. . . Black Mint. and Peep (in blinkers) ran a mile togothcr in lmin 52 3-ssec, the last half-mile taking 57sec. Peep, held to the rail by her companion, did not display her usual tendency to run off. Eminent; a lightly-built three-year-old chestnut colt by Loighton from Exclusive, surprised by beating Caught, a three-year-old bay filly by Trespasser from Forest Girl, by a good length at the end of half a mile in 50 3-ssec. Theso members of S. J. Reid's team have not yet raced, . ■ •••:• - - ~ Oratoriau and Gesture, under a pull, went live furlongs together, the final half-mile "taking 52sec. Prefect, the two-year-old chestnut gelding by Chief Ruler from Loithfield in S. J. Reid's team, boat Acorn by about three-|>arts of a length over three furlongs in 3G 2-ssee. Prefect had a much lighter, weight in the saddle. Half. Aero did seven furlongs alone in lmin 3(ssee. Lady Noel, a two-year-old bay filly by Lackhiim from Lady Kotiripo, finished in front of Eoi do Val at tho end of a sprint over, two. and a half furlongs. Both were saddling heavy weights. Theso horses aro to go to Woodville, where Lady Nool will be having her first race. Roi do Val will be ridden in the hurdles by A. .Jenkins. Cape Gold and Maritime, two two-year-olds in W. M'Conkey's charge who aro to go to Auckland, did six furlongs together at about three-quarter pace. Intruder and Zephyrus finished on terms at tho end of six furlongs in lmin SOsec, the final five furlongs taking lmin 7sec. . Oral and Dolomite were slow off: the mark in a five-furlong sprint, but camo home, tho final half-inilc in 52 3-asec. A good gallop for a hack was that of Ephialtes, who beat Dainty Ways by a length ovor seven furlongs in lmin 32 3-ssee, tho last half-mile of which took 53 4-ssec.
