Teiegrap.hTrl^r.css..Association.) j TE AROHAy 2nd December, j To-day the.,Thanies Valley Power Board considered- in-v.,committeo the I question of effecting economies by various means,-including.a reduction in salaries. : The chairman, Mi\ i\ M. Strange, later made, a- statement to the Press in which he said it had -been decided to take no action at present, but the whole position would be reviewed in February. Mr. Strange said that the costs of administration of tho Thames Valley Board were the lowest in tho Dominion, with the exception .of Hawkes Bay, which sotd most of its current in bulk to Napier and Hastings. The board took the' view that as most of. the employees were protected by an award, it would be unfair to start economies by reducing salaries of those without protection, thus bringing tlio payment down in tho higher branches to less than the wages for ordinary labourers. It was hold tliat if salaries and wages were to bo reduced it. should be. general, and the Government should take' tlie initiative.
