Of that number 17,486 bales ivere Hawkes Bay and East Coast ■wool, and 1884 bales Gisborne wool. The relatively small offering is attributable partly to delayed shearing, partly to a decided lightness in the clip, and partly to reluctance of some growers to quit at prices which they hope will be improved upon next season or later in the present season. A slight rise on Auckland levels was shown at the first Napier wool sale of the season, held to-day. A catalogue of 19,000 bales was offered, with exceedingly keen competition, especially from ihe Continent, with Bradford bidding freely. The best offer up till noon was for super comeback, which were passed in at B%d, first-grade comeback was passed at Bd. super hogget wool realised 7V£d, first grade crossbred ranged- generally from 4V4d to The best price made for first-grade, pieces was 6d per pound. /
