The jockeys concerned were engaged in tho last race, the Carlton' Mile, at the Moorefield races. They went on strike until the field was reduced to eighteen. They contended that the size of tho field made the running of the race dangerous. Tho field originally numbered twenty-two. Tho jockeys claimed that it was too many for a pmall course like Moorefield, which has been the scone of many former accidents owing to overcrowding.
