SYDNEY, Ist December." Arising out of the recent apjilieation oy the Railway Commissioners in the Eastern States for the right to vary the employees' awards in order to institute emergency schemes of retrenchment, the High Court was asked by the unions and the Federal Government to decide the question as to whether tho Stato railway authorities could be made parties to the Federal awards. The Court to-day decided in tho affirmative.
