TWO IN AT FINISH
.SSIUDING'S MAIN RACE
SILVERMINE AND ARROW LAD
Over the concluding stagey of the St. 'Andrew's Handicap, the main race .at Feilding yesterday, there were only two iorses in the race: they were Silvermine and Arrow Lad, who drew several lengths flear of their opponents and had the stage practically to themselves for the final act. Silvermine, with all his old brilliance, caught Arrow Lad at the distance, and continued on to a neck victory. The ease with which the pair beat the others may be gauged from the fact that, the third horse, Shrewd, who had to be hard ridden to hold off Ruanui, was iive ■or six lengths away. Paiko was the early leader in the race, but after they had gone a couple, of furJongs Imateagirl ran up to the front and Jed:Paiko, Arrow Lad, Hopwood, Silvermine, Shrewd, and Balloon into the back. Arrow Lad "took charge at the half-mile, while Silvermine began his run just a little further on to follow Arrow Lad into ■the straight, with Paiko, Keddar, Ruanui, and Shrewd nearest of the others. Silverjnine and Arrow Lad then left the others, the former winning comfortably, with Shrewd just beating Rnanui for third money. Keddar was fifth, and Balloon, Hopwood, .Imateagirl, and Paiko the (order of the remainder. Silvermine was over £100 better fancied jlli an' Arrow Lad, with Ruanui jxud Paiko imost in demand of the others. Silver|mine never looked like losing the race once he came at Arrow Lad. L. J. Ellis, ithe latter's rider, made a final lunge a B ew chains from the post, but H. Gray only had to touch Silvermine-to ward off this danger. Ruanui and Shrewd were ;well back most of the way, but finished 'stoutly. Imateagirl and Paiko ran themselves to a standstill and were not vered with when beaten. Keddar is improving. .
