Yesterday's depression has-passed east of the Dominion, and since last evening barometers have risen fairly considerably in the South with the advance of an anticyclone over tlie Tasman Sea. Winds are now mainly southwesterly or southerly, and moderate to fresh. Tlie change of wind direction has brought more widespread rains and cold temperatures, but by 9 a.m. to-day an improvement had set in in tlie western districts of the South Island.
