ROTARY AUCTION
FOR CHRISTMAS CHEER FUND
Botarians at their weekly luncheon; to-day gave freely' towards the Christmas Hamper Fund by their spirited bidding at an auction of roses and other flowers brought in from all parts of the city and suburbs. Eotarian A. Russell was the auctioneer, and in less than half an hour over £25 had been. collected. The best bid was £2, and there were several of £1 each. In some cases the roses were handed back to be offered again, and the greatest of good humour prevailed as the auctioneer's lively wit elicited bids from all over the room. First prize for the best collection of blooms went to Lyall Bay, with tvarori second, and City; third. A beautiful display of carnations from Eastbourne brought £1 is, and a tomato from "Wadestown, for; which the "booby" prize was awarded, cost its purchaser 10s. Prior to the auction, a short address was given byl Rotarian T. B. Strong (Director ot Education) on "The Philosophy ■ off Rotary."
