THE DORMER DO. X

DAMAGED BY FIRE v

LEFT WING DESTROYED

(Received Ist December, S a.m.) LISBON, 30th- November. A fire which occurred on the Dornier flying boat Do. X destroyed the'left wing of the machine. | A sudden blaze was caused by spark from an auxiliary battery. The crew, aided by local firemen and Portuguese firemen, saved the 'plane from total destruction. Eepairs to the left wing will take several weeks, but it is not expected that this will prevent the machine from starting the Atlantic flight in January.

On 11th November the Dornier Do. X arrived in England, where she excited great admiration. A week later a flight from Bordeaux to Corunna was begun, but the flying boat was forced down at sea, and later was towed to a mooring on the Geronde River, about twenty miles from Bordeaux.
