MISSED THE JOSTLE

HOW ACMIL'S RIDER SCORED ■ ( ■ — ■

Acmil's rider, S. Anderson, made sure of missing the jostle that was almost bound to take place in the big field that paraded for the Kowhai Hack Handicap, and he. took up the role of pacemaker as quickly as he could. The policy proved a profitable one, for he had a smooth run thereafter, and came home a comfortable victor. Acmil is a thifee-year-old bay filly;.by Acre from the California, mare Millenary, a granddaughter of Carbine, and. she has been: showing consistent form in her races this season. She is owned'and trained by' Mr. W. J. King, of Hastings. Once the field had settled down, Aemil, Hawkshaw,: Acredity, Crennatown, . and. Charmaline were doing it the best. Acmil led Charmaline, Acredity, Hawkshaw, Crennatown,' and Grand Jury into the straight, and continued on to win comfortably from the fast-finishing Spearform by a length and a half. Crennatown was another half length back third, and Miss Hastings, Hawkshaw, Cliarmaline, and Gallamart were next. Nightmare was well over £100 better supported than Acmil, with' Easterly, Grand Jury, and Miss Hastings also in fair demand. Spearform, for second, paid double figures, nearly twice as much as the- winner. Nightmare and Easterly were never sighted in the race. Miss Hastings came very fast over the final piece, and was catching the leaders at every stride. Spearform came through earlier, but he never had a chance of getting to the winner. Auckland Gas, who drew wide out, was also doing some good work at the end! Day Lass was badly checked going out of the straight, and almost came down. Several horses met interference at the point, and this may have accounted for. their poor showings.
