MELROSE AFFAIRS

A very successful concert was held recently in the Melrose- Hall, under the auspices of the Ratepayers and Electors' Association, the proceeds being for association funds. A splendid programme was given to a large and appreciative audience. The sale of refreshments and cakes from the buffet added to the success of the gathering. Mrs. Mai'lrn-Williams .provided half of the programme, a number of her pupils giving various items. The sketch, "In the Olden Days," was well presented by three of the students, and received well-merited applause. 'The Misses Boyd, Johnson, M'Gill, Read, Thompson, Brown, Williams, and Masters Johnson and lioyd contributed elocutionary items. Mrs. Mark Tonks and Miss K. Flan sang well. Mrs. Tonks also gave a monologue. Miss 1. Flan's pianoforte solo was much appreciated. Mr. Blackwood'played several pieces very effectively on the piano-accordeou. Mr. Erie Chung delighted those present with his. lightning sketches, all his work being enthusiastically applauded. l'lie "Masqueraders" Orchestra provided the musical part of the concert, their playing of popular songs, etc., adding much to the pleasure of the evening. At the conclusion of the concert they remained to play for a brief dancing session. Many encores were demanded and gladly given. \t the conclusion of the concert Mr. C. G. Palmer, on behalf of the association, thanked the many performers for their assistance. The suni ot over i-G was raised at the concert.
