CARNERA BEATS PAOLINO
HUGE CEOWD AT BARCELONA
(Received Ist December, 2 p.m.) LONDON, 30th November. The boxer Camera gained a points decision over Paolino after a ten rounds contest at Barcelona. The attendance was 91,000, a European record.' ■ Though each contestant delivered heavy blows in order to break his opponent's defence, the contest soon degenerated into a: hugging match, until the referee interfered. Nevertheless, the crowd applauded every round, admiring Paolino's pluck against his bigger, younger, and more skilful adversary. In the first. round, Paolino, with three heavy blows, sent the- Basque sprawling, but in the following rounds Camera easily outboxed his crudely lunging opponent. The Italian's footwork was masterly, and Paolino, who developed wrestling tactics in the latter part of the fight, appeared to be baclly mauled, though the punishment he absorbed indicated that ho is made of iron. It is believed that tho receipts will exceed £40,000, of which the contestants will divide £20,000. Dickson's profits are likely to be £10,000. Boxing was practically unknown iri Spain a few years ago, and it is remarkable that she should be the first country in Europe to provide such a huge crowd.
