TWO CITY FIRES
At 11.16 this morning the Fire Brigade received a call to 22, Lome street,! a five-roomed two-story private residence, occupied by Bella Baldwin, and owned by Harper and Moat. Fire and water damaged a "bedroom, where the outbreak originated, presumably through a cigarette end falling on the bedding. On Saturday afternoon at 3.41 the Brigade was called to 196, Lambton quay, where an electric iron left on had started a fire. The building, which was owned by Arthur Law and occupied by Mrs. Eugene Dennis, comprised two shops—a dressmaker's and a fancy goods shop. A workroom and contents on the ground floor were damaged, and the front shop suffered through heat and smoke. The insurance on the contents was £400 in the Phoenix Office, and on the building £3000 with the British Traders.
