MR. STAN HICKSON
Widespread regret will be felt at the death of Mr. W. E. S. (Stan) Hickson, which occurred suddenly ' yesterday. Having been associated with the A.M.P. Society for 38 years, and a prominent player in his day on the cricket and hockey fields, as well as being a member of an old Wellington family, the late Mr. Hickson was well known by people in many walks of life, and he was Highly respected. -He was born fifty-three years ago in Greymouth, where his father was the manager of the National Bank. Starting with the A.M.P. Society as a cadet, ho rose to the position of accountant. As . a cricketer he gained Wellington representative honours as a result of consistently good form with the bat in club cricket in which he played for the Wellington Club. His first representative match was against Trott's Australian Eleven in 1596, and another overseas team which he played against was Wynyard's M.C.C. team, which visited Wellington in 1906-7. His highest score iv representative cricket was 62 against Manawatu in' 1907. For the Wellington Club he headed the batting- average on several occasions. It was at the Marist Broß.' school and St. Patrick 'a College that the late Mr. Hickson received his education, and there, too, he learned his cricket, although as a cricketer he was not so prominent as his brother Claude, and his uncle Harry, the former being a New Zealand representative. Stan Hiekson made his runs mostly by strokes in front of the wicket, his drive being powerful. At hockey he represented Wellington and the North Island. The late Mr. Hickson is survived by his widow (a daughter of the late Mr. T. L. Ward), and three children (two girls and a boy).
