The first sweep was drawn in 1881, being on the Sydney Gold Cup—won that year by Progress. •This was a £2000 sweep, with subscriptions of £1. The' trustees and \ executors were Messrs, W: J. Adams, Or. J. Barry, D. H. Harvey, and W. A. lunlay, and each received £1000 as a legacy. Annuities were provided for to the tollowing: The testator's widow, .£500; his brother Charles £500; his brother John, £300; to the present ' wife of the saia Gerald' Joseph Barry, £250; to Phil Glcnister, £200; to George Lowsby, the elder, £100; to Mrs. Emily Hayden, niece ot the testator's first wife, £100; to ' Mrs. William Adams, widow of testator's late, father, £200. William Adams, .the £200 per annum to i be equally divided between the children j of Mary Oregon (deceased, a daughter of i the said Mrs. William Adams by a former husband, and the survivors and survivor of such children. The residue of the said net rents and profits; which is considerable, were to be paid to the testator's nephew, the said William Joseph Adams, for his life. "The trustees were authorised to carry on any other business which the testator was carrying on, and to stand possessed of the moneys hereinbefore directed to be: held upon the trusts in favour of charities, for charitable, benevolent, or philanthropic purposes in the several States of the Commonwealth and New Zealand, as therein mentioned. The testator also gave for the same purpose all moneys and prizes in his said sweep consultation business, the claim whereto might be or become barred. "All the testator's real, and the residue of, his personal estate in Tasmania, except the said sweep consultation business and in persona) estate and moneys connected therewith, and except moneys lying to his credit in any bank in Tasmania, and except a debt due to the testator by the said David Hastie Harvey, passed by the joint effect of the testator's will, and a subsequent deed to the following persons in the following shares: David fiastie Harvey, 33-100ths; William Joseph Adams, 30-100ths; Edward Elliot Grant, 18-100ths; Thos. Lyons, 14-100ths; Gerald Joseph Barry, 2%-100ths or l-40th; and William Alexander Finley, 2%-100ths, or l-40th. "The sweep consultation business, as carried on by the testator under licence from the Government of Tasmania, and all moneys, credits, and effects used in connection therewith, all moneys lying to his credit in any bank in Tasmania, all of which are referred to as his sweep consultation business, were given to his trustees upon truSt to pay. prizes and other moneys payable in respect of such sweep business." „
