REFUSAL TO SIGN ON
ADMIRALTY TANKER HELD .UP
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The men selected to man the British Admiralty's chartered tanker Nucula, which supplies oil fuel to the New Zealand Naval Squadron, this morning refused to sign on. It was alleged that the tanker's reduced manning scale did not provide enough men to carry on. The number of the crew has been reduced by three- able seamen, two greasers,' two oil burners, and one steward. The men say that to sign on under the reduced scale will be unfair to many unemployed seamen in Auckland. The Nueula was due to sail on Monday for San. Pedro, California.
