"TALKIES" LOSE NOVELTY .

The return in the near future of stage attractions under the Fuller management was announced yesterday by Mr. John Fuller, who arrived atAuckland from Sydney by the TJlimaroa on a short business visit, reports the "New Zealand Herald." "Talking pictures have now lost their novelty," Mr. Fuller said. "They are a,;generally accepted form of entertainment, and as such only the best will, drair public patronage. Those who held that the talking film sounded the deata knell of.the legitimate play were mistaken from the stni-t. Normal conditions will soon be restored, and screen and staga will both still be iv existence." ■ . , Mr. Fuller was not prepared to say when his firm intended to reintfoduca "flesh and blood" shows. Much depended on conditions in Australia, ha said. As long as the present period, of industrial depression lasted, it would be waste of money to stage expensiv* theatrical entertainments. However, as soon as conditions improved legitimate theatres which at present' wera being used as picture houses would revert to the stage,- although his firm would still retain its interests in ,tho talking picture field. ■, Commenting on the present■position, of the film industry in New Zealand, Mr. Fuller said he welcomed the removal of the difficulties that had arisen! through the film tax. The British film industry should receive all possible support, but the demand for American pictures could not be overlooked. It was perhaps a pity that. so. many English, artists and authors went to Hollywood, but while such conditions existed it was impossible to depend on, JEngli?k industry for full supplies. '.'..'.
