BIG CRICKET

TO-MORROW'S MATCH

WEST INDIES V. WELLINGTON

BRIGHT PEOSPECTS

According to latest advices the cricketors from the West Indies, en route to Australia, are due to arrive in Wellington by tho Tamaroa at 7 a.m. tomorrow; and are expected to disembark at about 0.30 a.m. Although their stay in Wellington is limited they are not being rushed to the cricket field, arrangements having been made for the tourists to have tho morning free. The match with Wellington's representatives at the Basin Kesorve is to commence at 2 p.m., and play will proceed until 6.30 p.m., with an adjournment for tea from 4 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. There will bo an earlier start, of course, on Thursday, the time to be arranged when tlie visitors arrive to-morrow. As has already been pointed out in "The Post," the cricketers of the West Indies have the reputation of playing the game very attractively, and with tho improvement in the weather there are excellent prospects of bright and breezy batting and keen fielding by the visitors to-moTrow and on Thursday. Their bowling, too, promises to be a special attraction, as both Constantine and Griffith are credited with being two of the fastest bowlers in the world. Fraucis completes a-trio "acclaimed to bo tho best of their type seen in modem representative cricket since the days of Gregory and M' Donald, the demon Australians." A good team has been chosen to represent Wellington, and tho local representatives should be capable of contributing liberally to an entertaining and interesting match, the wicket for which is in splendid order. USE OF LARGER WICKETS. There is a possibility of tho larger wickets being brought into use for this match, and, if so, it will bo for the first time in New Zealand. Sets of tho larger wickets were given to the New Zealand Cricket Council last season, and these are being forwarded to Wellington in case they are required for the match. If the West Indies cricketers are to have larger wickets for their matches in Australia, the experience in Wellington should be of value to them. For all Sheffield Shield matches the larger wickets have been adopted, but it is not known whether the new order will apply to the matches in which the. West Indiei team plays. Members of the Wellington Cricket Association, with representatives of the New Zealand Cricket Council, will meet the visitors to-morrow. Mr. D. Eeese (president) and Mr. W. H. Winsor (hou. secretary), of the New Zealand Cricket Council, arrived in Wellington from Chfistchurch this morning, and Mr. D. E. Wanklyn (hon. treasurer) is due tomorrow morning. Mr. P. B.
