A DISADVANTAGE
BOND FOR TEACHERS
A general view that the he^ provision of the Department of Education, which requires that probationers, should enter into a bond to take up employment anywhere in Hew Zealand, would be a disadvantage to young girl teachers and also materially affect the teaching standard, was expressed by members at last night's meeting of tho Wellington ■ School Committee 'a Association. ; ~.._. In opening the discussion, Miss Park said sho would like to know, if1 there was auy special advantage to_ .tho Department underlying tho conditions; it was-.'likely to reduce the number of applicants. . ■ < "If some of these girls are going to some of tho 'sole charge' schools I know about, theu God help them," said Mr. C. H. Nicholls. "I would not like a daughter of.« friencl of mine to go{" Continuing, Mr. Nicholls said he could not see the point in transferring teachers from one district to another. It was quite all right for teachers of experience, and it was not so difficult for -male teachers, but for young ladies it was a different matter. After some discussion it was decided to writo to the Department of Education :in;'regard to the matter.
