REPEAL DEMANDED
THE UNEMPLOYMENT ACT
FARMERS' TAXATION BURDEN
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, Bth November. Opposition by primary producers to the * Unemployment Act and its provision for the levy of a tax to aid the unemployed was expressed in strong terms at a meeting of farmers at the Matamata Town Hall. Mr. D. B. Higgins, president of the Matamata branch of the Farmers' Union, presided over 300 farmers. The following motion was carried unanimously:— , "That this meeting of farmers and others in Matamata. district views with dismay' the apparent indifference; of the Government to the desperate condition of tiie exporting industries, and protests the continual additions instead' of the removal of the crushing burdens of direct and indirect taxation imposed on producers; further, that this meeting demands the repeal of the Unemployment Act under its present form, and emphatically protests against any money in tbe form, of sustenance allowance being paid without work, and demands that immediate. action be taken by Cabinet. to relieve pressure from the primary producer to enable him to carry on." ~■"'-.
