WELLINGTON CENTRE

STATE OF THE FUNDS

In moving the adoption of the annual report at the twentieth-annual meeting of the Wellington Head Centre of the New Zealand Branch of the Royal Life-Saving Society recently* the president, Mr. G. S. Hill, said that although unfavourable weather had affected the number of awards issued last year, -the number remained well up to standard. The finances Of the society were not altogether in a sound state, arid the reduction in the grant from the Mueartliy Trust was regreted, but the society appreciated the assistance received from the fund in the past. . .Reference was later made to the decision of the Government to discontinue the annual grant to the New Zealand Swimming - Association, and the opinion was expressed that the work of the association was deserving of the Government's support. Mr. F. Chapman gave the following notice of motion: "That the complete eoutral of all inter-club competitions" shall be vested1 in the sub-committee of the society, which shall receive all entrance fees for competitions aud shall issue all awards for such competitions." That the examining officer of the society shall be empowered to. reduce the size of classes, if deemed advisable, and that the classes be of twelve candidates for one examiner aud twenty candidateti. for two examiners." It was decided, to leave it to the clubs to see that their gear was in efficient condition and to oppose the question of the breaking strength of the lines being provided for in the rules of the competitions. ■....-. ■;' : _ ;..:...
