STATE GRANT RENEWED
Tho monthly executive committee meeting of tho Wellington branch of" the South African WaT Veterans 5 Association was held in the Returned Soldiers' Rooms. The president .(Major P. E. do B. Brandon) was in the chair. Members of the committee also present were Messrs. J. I. Goldsmith (secretary), J. J. Clark (treasurer), C. F. Bishop, T. W. Brown, B. C. Cull, F. Plaster, W. T. C. Wortley, and E. M. Woodey. The president reported that-greetings had, been sent to. tho First Contingenters at their thirtieth annual re-union. These were suitably acknowledged by Veteran; Brown, a member of the executive, and also of the First Contingent. . It was stated that after reconsideration the Government had decided to renew the annual grant of. £250 to thel Dominion Executive tor the relief of distressed veterans. Members expressed their gratification, and the action1 of the president in sending the association's acknowledgment: to the Minister of Internal Affairs was' confirmed. It was decided to order 300 copies of '' The "Veteran (the. annual. journal), for distribution to members, each of whom will receive a copy within the next few days. The secretary reported that a donation of i£l Is had been received from Major Bathurst. Veteran Brown gave some useful information on tho centralisation of the war graves in South Africa, and the work done by the Guild of Loyal Women in this respect. . ■ Discussion was' deferred until the next meeting. . , . . ■'.._.. A sub-eonnmtteo was appointed ' to revise the rules of the association, and report at. the next meeting. ;The matter of holding a. charity ball in co-operation with : the Returned Soldiers' Association was-.held, over until March. . '.'■...-■.■. The proposal to share suitable accom* modation with the Dominion Executive, a room being available in the K.S.A. building at a reasonable rental, was favourably entertained,, and.it was de-. eided to submit the matter, to the next meeting of the Dominion Executive.
