' The by-election at Shipley, Yorkshire, caused by the death of the Labour member, Mr. W. Mackinder, resulted ia a Conservative gain. The figures wer« declared to-day aa follows:— Lockwood (Con.) 15,238 Bobinson (Labour) 13,573 Davy (Liberal) 12,785 Gallaclier (Communist) 701 Conservative majority over Labour " 1,665 The Communist forfeits his deposit. The Labour majority at the last eleo* tion was 4961, the full figures being:— W. Mackinder (Labour), 18,654; Si* Eobert Clough (C), 13,693; F. W. Hirst (L.), 11,712.
